Prescriptives Daring Collection Fall 08

This is JSG's favorite fall look. We've told you how much we're loving our Prescriptives Lash Envy mascara in plum, here are the other stand out products that we're reaching for over and over -- and it's not even fall yet.

The Sparkle Eye Pencil in plum sparks: it has glitter but goes on smoothly (if you've ever tried a bargain brand with sparkles, they can be scratchy and hard to smudge). The model in the above picture is wearing blue, the midnight sparks. We haven't tried it yet; but it's on our wish list.

Fall Dimensions for Cheeks and Eyes: we use a swirl of this powder across our cheeks for brightness and contour (for more color we load our brush heavier with the darkest shade). We use the shimmery sand all over our upper and lower lids, the lilac on our lower lid, and the darkest in the crease.

Enter to win the entire Daring collection worth $230 on the Prescriptives website, contest began Monday and ends September 30, 2008.

Louis Vuitton Monogram Rubis Tote

Our sister-in-law came for a visit toting this wow bag from LV. The Monogram Rubis is from the 08 Cruise Collection and was inspired by Marc Jacobs. The patent red weave is so bright and fresh, it's seasonless, and quite striking against the basic monogram. Jen says she can't walk through the airport with at least one person stopping to ask her where she got it. We loved the size (it's huge) with plenty of room for a throw, a book, a cosmetic case, a laptop and basically everything else you bring on board. It may be on the heavy side, but Jen says it's worth the convenience of having extra space not to mention it's cool to carry a bag that everyone envies! She found hers at Neiman's Louis Vuitton salon. Unfortunately, when we were searching for it on line we found some "replicas" (ewh!) so be careful if you're interested in getting one for yourself.

Vince Sweaters: Our Continuing Addiction

We have a few addictions. Fake eyelashes. Iced coffee. Lenny Kravitz.

Add Vince sweaters to the list. We’ve been a fan since 2005, when we bought our first one (a brown wool funnel sleeved open cardi) at Fred Segal in West Hollywood. Since then, we’ve bought a new one each season (Hope beat Annie to the punch this past summer and good friend that she is, gave her a grey cashmere bell sleeved sweater for her birthday) and have amassed a nice collection of zip up hoodies, summer weight cashmere and heavier winter cashmere cardis since.

Vince (Cynthia Vincent) is our go to sweater gal for her cardigans that are functional, yet never boring with details like dip dyed fabrics,

turned up cuffs

and short sleeves.

They’re so comfy, they practically define cozy and are perfect for traveling.

Check out the video trunk show on Saks.com, where you can also buy all the sweaters shown.

Beijing Air Pollution: Yes, It Really is That Bad

You can’t flip open a newspaper these days without reading about the poor air quality in Beijing. JSG went two years ago, and can personally report, that yes, it is that bad.

We were there in May and developed a cough that we couldn't shake even after we had been home for a few weeks. Even for a month or two afterwards, whenever we were in pollution, around cigarette smoke or smoke from dry ice (at a club), the cough instantly kicked in.

We were lucky we weren’t there a few weeks earlier. We met some fellow travelers who said that a dust storm from the Gobi Desert made it particularly miserable.

We feel for beach volleyball players Misty May-Traenor and Kerri Walsh (pictured above in their killer bikini-clad splendor); though the air pollution hasn't hurt them yet.

Ever wonder what it's like to compete in a bikini? Here's a video clip of Jen Boss USA volleyball player giving us the dish.

Why We Love Purple Now

Back in May, we went through a blue faze, now we've moved on. It started with one little bottle of nail polish and, well, it's become a habit. Everywhere we turn we see something purple that's irresistible. Our mani/pedi with Don't Go There (Sephora by OPI) was perfect on our girls' weekend and the soft grayish purple suited the foggy, cool days in San Francisco. It's brighter and better for summer than the gray colors like Metro Chic that are picks for the fall.

Then we found this MAC shadow we've been wearing day and night called Illegal Cargo (described as a "mid-tone frosty greyed plum"). We wear it on our lower lid lighter during the day and richer at night.

We've been totally hooked on the Prescriptives Lash Envy volumizing mascara in plum. It's got just enough color to brighten up our eyes (and it looks particularly good with brown and hazel).

We bought a purple Aqua top like this one from Bloomingdales that we've worn twice in as many weeks.

And our most coveted find yet, this Miu Miu handbag from Saks. Can you blame us for lusting after this? It's gorgeous!

On Our Radar: Montauk's Surf Lodge

This weekend we’re headed to Montauk for a much-needed post-move getaway. A few month’s back, when we were looking into where to stay, Surf Lodge first crossed our radar. It’s from the owners of NYC’s Cain and Gold Bar (both are chichi clubs). The website photos make it look adorable and the restaurant by Sam Talbot (the hottie from Top Chef’s second season shown below) sounds promising.

So we did what we always do before staying at a new hotel and looked it up on Tripadvisor.com. It wasn’t listed yet, which gave us pause. We never like to be the ones to work out a hotel’s kinks.

We continued to investigate, thinking that if the hotel is new, maybe they have lower rates. They didn’t (and still don’t) accept reservations online. So we called. And the phone rang and rang and rang.

Needless to say, we abandoned our idea of staying there and made reservations at the decidedly less glamorous, but well-reviewed Ocean Resort Inn. And forgot all about the Surf Lodge.

That was up until this week. Rumor has it Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin were spotted there recently. As was Luke Wilson, Naomi Watts and Lieve Schrieber along with U2’s Larry Mullen.

In addition to being a draw for celebs, the place is creating a lot of controversy over at Gridskipper.com. Some say the hotel is seriously buggy, that it’s not laid back enough and that the service is too slow. Others say those people are just being haters.

Guess we’ll have to check it out for ourselves. Good thing $12 drinks haven't fazed us since the ‘90s.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 in Greece

We haven't had time to catch the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 (it was only released yesterday, after all), but both JSG's can't wait--and we're not embarrassed to admit it! At 30, we’re not exactly the movie’s target audience, but STP2, about a group of friends who grew up in a suburb of D.C. totally resonates with us. We're from NoVa and have a close group of friends with a wild one, a sensitive, artsy one, a brainy one and an athletic one, and shared our fair share of clothes through the years.

Really—all you have to do is look at the above photo and you’ll be convinced to call 777-FILM. The stars are gorgeous, the Technicolor clothes are fun to see (Props to Amber for that adorable yellow beach coverup) and the scenery is to die for.

There’s some pretty good guy candy, to boot. Check out Jesse Williams, courtesy of Page 6 Magazine, who poses naked in lucky Alexis’s art class.

Since we haven’t seen STP2 yet, we’re not sure why all the girls end up in Greece, though it likely has something to do with Alexis’s Greek family. The movie was filmed in Oia (pronounced “E-ah”) in Santorini, Greece an island we’re planning on re-visiting in the next few years.

Best news yet? You can win a trip to Greece, courtesy of ELF Cosmetics and its Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 contest. Click here to register.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 isn't the only movie out this summer that was filmed in Greece. Want to know where Mamma-Mia was filmed?
