Another Reason to Heart Virgin America

An email just landed in our in box, courtesy of Virgin America. Our fave new airline is offering a 15 percent discount to Banana Republic addressed to Jet Setters so we can "Arrive in Style". How cool is that?

The code is BBKD8476MKL3. You can use it online or print it out and bring it to a store. We just checked out the new BR Monogram collection, Banana's much-buzzed about attempt at going high end--we took a quick look online and weren't exactly wowed, but we did like the dress above. It looks like it's wrinkle-proof, we love dresses and long sleeves are great for this "Isn't-it-spring-YET" time of year.

Bright Eyed and...

We recently met Trae Bodge, (left) one of the founders of 3 Custom Color. 3 Custom Color is know for being THE place to go when MAC or Chanel discontinues your favorite lip gloss. What we didn't know was that Trae is one of the loveliest woman you could ever hope to meet. We could have talked with her for hours about NYC, boys, weddings, home buying, the list goes on. Of course, we were there to talk about makeup and Trae shared more than a few of her secrets for looking refreshed and awake after a hard night of partying (or staying up with a newborn, as was Trae's situation when she created the Mom-On-The-Go collection.)

One product we were instantly addicted to is the clarifying pencil. It's a warm flesh tone (it comes in light or dark) that you use to line the inner rim of your lower eyelid. "It cancels out any redness." Boy does it ever. We will definitely use this on our next trip to Vegas.

Trae also helpfully suggested that we not wear purple eyeshadow like we were that day, when we're tired, as purple makes eyes look bloodshot.

Also in the Mom-On-The-Go collection is a Brow Gel. If you're like us you spend money and lots of your own time keeping those caterpillars tame. This gel hold them in place all day, without being sticky, flaky or too stiff. We used the clear; but the gel also comes in six different tints to match your hair color and add fullness.

Headed to the beach? 3 Custom Color has an intriguing special collection called Miami Glamour. It combines a sparkly teal eye color, Peacock, (applied wet along the lash line), with black liner and a poppy lip and cheek stain. The website tells you how to do it yourself.

On Our Radar: Spa Week 2008!

JSG loves to spa, almost as much as we like to shop, travel and party! Every year we look forward to Spa Week, when treatments at some of the country’s best spas are a mere 50 bucks! This means we can spa and have enough left over for some of those dresses we wrote about yesterday!

Spa Week runs from April 14-20. It’s now in 17 states, D.C. and Canada! A few of our favorites: The Great Jones Spa in NYC is offering a 30 minute massage plus a day pass to their fabulous water lounge (the hot tub and steam room alone will erase 5 years worth of stress); Spa V at South Beach’s Hotel Victor is offering a cinnamon massage and seaweed wrap (Just remember not to schedule a detoxifying treatment like this when you want to go out later. It will make you very, very sleepy!); the spa at the Arizona Biltmore gives you the option of a facial, massage or pedi (be sure to schedule time to walk their gorgeous grounds and sip an Arnold Palmer afterwards). Washington D.C. area Red Door Spas are offering 50 minute body wraps, facials, or pedicures. While you're there, pick up a gift certificate for your mother--Mother's Day is around the corner and they're offering great packages with names like "Ultimate Embrace", "Peace and Quiet", and "Gentle Touch". We feel more relaxed just thinking about it!

Just a Usual Day--Hanging Out With Ted Gibson

NOT! We were so super-excited last night to while away the evening with celebrity stylist Ted Gibson (he styles hair for Angelina Jolie, Tina Fey, Kerry Washington and Anne Hathaway, just to name a few) and other Total Beauty bloggers.

Ted is a giant teddy bear and about the nicest guy you could ever hope to meet. We had an open and honest discussion about his business, his goals and even his childhood (the uberstylist was a linebacker in high school in Texas. How very Friday Night Lights--oh, and he just styled Mink Kelly's hair for an In Style shoot.)

We love Ted for a few reasons:
1. He says he "was put here on earth to make women feel really beautiful!"
2. His products are for woman with all hair types, because, "I'll be working with Joy (Bryant) one day and Annie (Hathaway) the next. I need a product that will work on all hair types." For us, this means we can use the same product in humid Miami as in dry Vegas.
3. Speaking of travel, his Hair Styling Sheets are a traveler's best friend. They're literally individually wrapped sheets so there's no risk of getting sticky gel all over your Jimmy's!

The Season of the Dress-- No Kidding

A curious thing happened a couple of weeks ago: we were standing outside of The Florida Room in Miami and we looked around and realized that we were the only women wearing jeans. Every other woman was wearing a dress. No exaggeration! We happen to LOVE our white jeans and they looked great with our new top; but we didn't expect to be so outnumbered. To verify this wasn't a fluke, we saw the same thing the following night. We saw it in L.A. when we were there for fashion week. Even in D.C., where it's not warm yet, there were tons more women wearing dresses.

We should have expected this, since all the mags have been saying it for months: here comes the season of the dress. Some of us are more prepared than others. Take the JSGs, one of us has 50+ dresses that take up their very own closet; the other only wears jeans--almost always. We mostly saw short dresses, especially since we were a clubs. Look for Grecian styles, one shoulder styles, and color blocked dresses.

Here are a couple of our favorites. We found both at Shop Bop.

Here's a gorgeous dress that Annie covets by Mint Jodi Arnold (It looks even sexier from the front)

An Answer to Our Mascara Prayers?

Every time we get our makeup done, we ask the makeup artist the same question: How can we wear mascara and under eye concealer without out our makeup smearing? (This combo is a MUST after a late night of partying or jet lag.) We’ve tried the sweep of fine powder—it settles into our crows’ feet. Ugh! No thanks! We’ve tried switching up the order and putting concealer on after our eye makeup to no avail. And waterproof mascara almost makes the issue worse—it smears just enough to be impossible to get off.

When we read about the new Clinique Lash Power Mascara Long-Wearing Formula’s challenge to brides—to wear the mascara and swim, watch sappy movies, cut onions, walk on a windy day--we were intrigued. Clinique promises the mascara will stay in place through all of these and come off with warm water—no heavy scrubbing required. Could it be the solution to our concealer problem?

When we opened the tube, we were skeptical. The wand was practically anorexic compared to our old stand by, Dior Show. (Dior Show is on the right. Clinique is on the left.). It couldn’t possibly give us the long full, lashes we love. But—we put it on and it did! Passed test #1. We used our concealer—no powder on top—and set off for our job on a windy spring day.

The result: When we got home, we were raccoon eye-free. It washed off in the shower without any rubbing or special eye makeup remover. We’re converts!

We like Sex and the City, but...

sex and the city
We think it's pretty crazy to spend $24,000 per person to spend four days in NYC living like Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda. That's what Destination on Location is charging SATC wannabes for a four day tour of NYC. Highlights include Sak's, Barney's and the Patricia Field store and restaurants Balthazar and Pastis. You can also chose optional activities based on which character you most identify with--Charlotte's will go to Tiffany's; Samantha's will go to sex shops. One woman from Singapore has already signed up.

Ladies--save your money! Last time we checked, it was free to go to Barney's and Saks and it IS possible to walk in and get a table at Pastis. If you need company, call us! We'll meet you and all it will cost you is a cosmo!
