Our First Girls' Trip

Ocean City, MD: home to crabs, French fries so good they're worth waiting an hour in line for under the blazing sun and scores of drunk teens their first couple of weeks out of high school. JSG was no exception and this was well before we learned the value of swank hotels, sunscreen and sleeping no more than 4 people per room max. The Graduates is a low, low, low budget film about a group of guys on their "Senior Week" in the east coast O.C.

You can watch the first four-minutes on the movie's website and while it feels like a fairly predictable and has some truly offensive language, it did make us a bit nostalgic for Jell-O shots, Aloe Vera and the smell of saltwater taffy and iron on t-shirt shops.

Good luck, finding a distributor, boys!

The Secrets to Making Blowouts Last Part 2

Granted it’s tougher in summer to go 3+ days without washing your hair, but with a few tricks, our style can go the distance.

Don’t fight against you hair’s own natural texture. If it’s curly or wavy, that bounce is going to come out faster in the heat and humidity no matter how painstakingly straight you get it on day 1. Ask your stylist for a blowout with movement and bounce. At Blow, Vinette twisted a round brush out at our ends which gave our naturally wavy hair just the kick it needed.

2. Sleep is the enemy of the blowout. It can make your ends look tattered and can give you the wrong kind of bed head. We twist our hair up and keep it in place with a giant clip that we borrowed from our salon. We also do this when we shower and wrap a hand towel around our head.

3. On about day 3, our roots are in need of volume while the rest is starting to look a little too messy for our day job. Let’s tackle this in two parts:

For our roots, we first use a dry shampoo to absorb roots and add that all-important texture. Next, we back comb or tease the roots, which gives our fine hair the boost it needs and makes it bed-heady without looking like Pig Pen.

For the middle to ends, we finger comb our hair and add the lightest touch of styling cream (seriously, the size of a pencil eraser), which we rub between our hands before applying evenly all over the ends.

Since we color our hair, we try our very hardest not to wash it frequently. That said, never let your style come in the way of having serious fun: go for that midnight skinny dip or beachside bike ride. That’s what ponytails are for, after all!

Sex and the City Girls' Getaway to Mexico?

Now that both members of JSG have seen the SATC movie, we were finally able to discuss it amongst ourselves freely. We agreed on just about everything—we loved the overall spirit of the movie, we both cried throughout, we were confused as to what exactly happens in the closet in the end and we’re dying to go to that gorgeous resort in Mexico. That was…

…until we discovered, courtesy of US Weekly, that that gorgeous resort is as fictional as a freelance writer affording a closet full of Manolos, LV and Dior! Turns out Malibu stood in for Mexico. Considering we were there in March, you think we would have spotted it. Here's the scene at Paradise Cove where we lunched.

Beauty Bloggers Gain Credibility in Industry

JSG was featured in Women's Wear Daily today in a story about the Total Beauty Blogging Summit last month. TB's CEO, Emrah Kovacoglu, gives JSG a special shout out, along with Tia from Shake Your Beauty and Nadie from Joline Nadine. Read the article here.

On Our Radar: Top 10 Museum Exhibits This Summer

Despite what our S.O's think, our girls' getaways aren't ALL about shopping and partying--we do like a solid dose of culture now and then and don't always wait for the art to come to us. Our friends over at Mutualart.com, a new site for art aficionados, provided us with this handy list of the Top 10 U.S. Art exhibits. If you do go, download one of iTunes new Audio Museum Tours to get the inside scoop.

Here's their list, in
JSG's order of preference (Take note: We're art neophytes, so take our opinion for what it's worth):

Frida Kahlo
(San Francisco Museum of Modern Art). We were bummed we weren't able to get our act in order to see this exhibit in Philly, which our other girlfriends raved about. Good thing for us we're headed to San Fran in July!

Everything's Here: Jeff Koons and His Experience of Chicago
(Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago) His giant dogs are so whimsical and fun--we wish we could afford a sculpture in our own home!

The Baroque World of Fernando Botero (New Orleans Museum of Art) Because we think everyone should visit New Orleans as much as possible and our friend Heidi loves his voluptuous women. It doesn't get any sexier than Botero in the Big Easy! (artwork above and at top)

·Calder Jewelry (Philadelphia Museum of Art) We grew up seeing Calder in the National Gallery of Art and will always have a soft spot for him.

Los Angelenos/Chicano Painters of L.A.: Selections from the Cheech Marin Collection (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) How can you not see an exhibit of art from the collection of one of the world's biggest stoners?

Making It New: The Art and Style of Sara and Gerald Murphy (Dallas Museum of Art) While we didn't know who they were til we googled them, this couple were close friends with Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Picasso and Alfred Hitchcock. That's reason enough to go for us!

Gilbert & George (Milwaukee Art Museum) The duo who coined the term "Art for All" are sure to put on one heck of an exhibit!

Louise Bourgeois (Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City) We still haven't gotten over our arachnaphobia so her works scares us a little.

Buckminster Fuller: Starting with the Universe (Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City) This looks a little text heavy for our tastes. If you go, please fill us in!

Life on Mars, the 2008 Carnegie International (Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh) Sci-Fi and Star Trek geeks are SO not our thing!

Father's Day Gift Ideas

We covet our Rebecca Norman bracelets, so much so that we take turns wearing them when we're on a girls' night out. All of her jewelry is handmade with an unfinished, hammered look. Best of all no two pieces are the same. We saw her collection of menswear and think it would make a great father's day gift. Our pick for dad (or husband, boyfriend, or brother) are the silver cuff links with champagne diamonds.
