Help for Frizzy, Summer Hair

Some of us have naturally curly hair, some staight, JSG's Hope has frizzy hair. D.C.'s hot and humid summers are the worst. It was a swamp before they settled it, ya know? Her daily routine this time of year is wash, pull hair back and go. When she's going out, she'll use several hair care products in the futile attempt to tame it.

When we visited the Blow Styling Salon in NYC last week, our stylist Christina (that's her on right with Hope) offered a fun alternative: Beach Blow texturing mist. Just wash, spritz, and air dry. It helps if you twirl sections of your hair around your fingers while it's drying, which is easy to do on your way to work. Finish by working Weather or Not climate neutralizer through your hair and over any fly aways. Verdict, Hope had much less frizz, with lots of volume and curl. Bonus, half way through the next day she pulled it back at the pool and had the perfect beach pony.

Spa Week Give Away

Our cousin, Allison, was married in one of the most spectacular natural settings we've ever seen: Zion National Park. It's located between Salt Lake City and Vegas. Here's your chance to see it yourself.

This month enter to win a 4 day/3 night get away to the Green Valley Spa and Resort in St. George, Utah, not far from Zion. The package includes accomodations for two in a luxury suite, delish cuisine, hikes in the red rock region, yoga, pilates, cooking classes and more-- worth $2830! After the hectic spring we've had, this would be a welcome treat. Enter to win at SpaWeek.org. Why not fly into Vegas like we did and have a crazy night out before heading up to this slice of heaven?

They Brought the Store to the Museum...

...Now Louis Vuitton continues to bring the museum to the store. The luxury designer recently unveiled the above installation, Hothouse (Blue), from Teresita Fernández at their San Francisco maison in Union Square. It's only the second U.S. Louis Vuitton to permanently house artwork and the designer commissioned it exclusively for the store. Those are miniature mirrors up there. We can't wait to see it for ourselves on our trip to San Fran next month. We love when art pops up in unexpected places.

If you haven't caught the store at the museum, you have until July 13 to visit the Takashi Murakami exhibit and the accompanying Louis Vuittion store at the Brooklyn Museum.

Who Has the Best Bacon?

bacon
Being Southern gals, it's near impossible for JSG to come across a piece of bacon we don't like. We found this week's NY mag piece "And Pick a Nice Slice of Pig" particularly drool-worthy because of the above photo (it certainly wasn't the title of the piece, which made us cringe a bit even as we typed it in just now). We figure we're expert enough to add our own 2 cents.

On the road: whenever we stay at a Kimpton Group Hotel, we always order in room service for the Applewood smoked bacon. It's dependably and deliciously crisp no matter which side of the Mississippi you're on.

Best bar snack: goes to Prime 112 in South Beach. It offers crisp strips of bacon gratis along with your martini. Beats peanuts and pretzels by a snout!

"Ummm...I think we're wearing the same dress!"

With all the chatter about SJP wearing the same Nina Ricci dress to a SATC premier as a socialite did to the Met ball a month earlier, we were reminded of this story from our trip to Phoenix last winter. It serves as a good contrast to SJP's statement on the dress: "It’s just unethical and disappointing that they would allow the dress to be worn again."

When we were having wine and apps at the bar at Olive & Ivy's, a girl came running across the bar to our friend, Shawn. She thought they were wearing the same blue sequin dress and said if they had on the same outfit they should at least be friends. As it turns out they weren't--Shawn's was in fact a top--but it's a good example of how to handle a potentially awkward situation gracefully.

In SJP's defense she does acknowledge that it's a pretty trivial matter in the grand scheme of things, but wouldn't it be nice if she said, "Yes, we wore the same dress and Santo Domingo and Linds both looked gorgeous in it?" After all, there are only so many good dresses to go around--trust us, we've shopped for them recently!

Congrats, Tory!

While we're not a fan of her shoes, the lady does know how to make the perfect beach tote, and Tory Burch's CFDA award for Accessory Designer of the Year was well deserved. Francisco Costa surely earned his award for Women's Designer of the Year for the Calvin Klein collection--we're just a bit further away from affording his designs, so don't know firsthand.

Fake Eye Lashes for a Big Night Out

Our new fave fake eyelashes are from Laura Mercier--we love the corner ones for that extra oomph. They cover about 1/3 or your eyelid which makes them pretty foolproof to apply and, how smart that they come with black glue that blends with your other eye makeup better than white. We had them applied at Bendel's Laura Mercier Lash Bar in NYC (thanks, Sarah!). The cost? Only $20, lashes and makeup application included. That's JSG's Annie and Hope above.

Afterwards we went to Blow for blowouts (check back later in the week for tips we learned there about the best summer styles). Our glammed up look may have worked a little too well--we're still recovering from our night at Soho House, 1 Oak and Pop Burger today!

The Corner Faux Eyelashes are also available on Laura Mercier's website with free shipping.
